A slat panel TV wall frames the screen, hides the empty wall around it and reduces echo in the room, so voices on screen sound clearer. Three layouts that work especially well are a full-width wall, a centred strip of three or four panels behind the TV, and a slat wall with built-in LED lighting. Here are seven ideas, with the panels and finishes that suit each.
1. Floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall
Covering the whole wall makes the biggest statement and gives the most acoustic benefit. For a standard 2.4m ceiling use the Akupanel 240; for higher ceilings use the Akupanel 300 cut to height. A 3.6m wall needs six panels. Work out yours with our panel calculator guide.
2. A centred strip behind the TV
Three panels (1.8m wide) or four panels (2.4m wide) centred behind the screen frame the TV like a picture, and leave the rest of the wall painted. It costs less than a full wall and works well on long walls. Finish both sides with 22mm finishing slats for a clean edge.
3. Slats with LED lighting
Our dimmable Lumi LED strip lights are designed to integrate with our slat panels. Run them along the top or sides of the slat wall, or behind the TV, for a soft glow at night. Lighting also helps when your wall is higher than your panels: centre the panels and let the light finish the space above.
4. Dark and moody for a home cinema
Darker finishes like Black Ash, Walnut or Rustic Smoked Oak make the screen pop and keep reflections down. Wrapping two or three walls of a cinema room in slat panels also absorbs echo, so dialogue is clearer. See the cinema demo room we did for Bang & Olufsen in our projects.
5. Light and Scandinavian
In a bright living room, Classic Oak with grey or beige felt, or the pale Snow finish, keeps the space light. Pair it with a low, floating media unit and white walls.
6. Half-height slats below the TV
Use Akupanel 120 half panels (1.2m high) to create a wainscot-style band below the TV, with the screen mounted on the painted wall above. Finish the top with a 67mm finishing slat to make a narrow ledge.
7. Continue onto the ceiling
For a dramatic effect, run the slats up the wall and across the ceiling above the seating area. It visually links the zone and adds more acoustic absorption. See our ceiling installation guide.
How do I mount a TV on a slat wall?
Mark where the TV bracket will go, then cut that area out of the panel with a jigsaw or track saw so the bracket fixes straight onto the wall behind. Do the same for plug points and switches. If you're not confident with the cut-outs, our installation team handles them as standard.
Which finish is best for a TV wall?

Frequently asked questions
How many panels do I need for a TV wall?
Divide the width you want to cover by 0.6m. A 1.8m strip behind the TV needs 3 panels; a full 3.6m wall needs 6.
Can I mount a TV on a slat panel wall?
Yes. Cut out the area for the bracket so it fixes directly to the wall behind the panels.
Do slat panels improve TV sound?
They reduce echo in the room, which makes dialogue clearer. They don't soundproof the room.
Can I add lighting to a slat TV wall?
Yes. Our dimmable Lumi LED strip lights are designed to integrate with our slat panels.
