What are Akupanels?

Akupanels are acoustic wood slat panels: real wood veneer slats mounted on a felt backing. They add warmth and texture to a room and absorb sound, which reduces echo and improves acoustics. They work on walls and ceilings, as headboards, half walls and under-counter features.

What sizes do the panels come in?

Our Akupanels are 600mm wide and come in 2400mm and 3000mm lengths. We also offer 1200mm “half panels” for headboards and half walls, and 600mm square panels for patterns and smaller features.

What finishes are available?

We offer a range of finishes, including Classic Oak (with black, grey or beige felt), Walnut, Black Ash, and our Rustic range in Natural, Brown, Grey and Smoked Oak and Smoked Larch. Available finishes vary by panel size. See each product page for current options.

Will my panels look exactly like the photos or sample?

Not exactly, and that’s part of their character. Our panels are real wood, so colour, grain, knots and texture vary from panel to panel, and colours can look different on screen. Rustic finishes show natural features such as knots and cracks. Wood also changes colour over time with light and air. None of these are defects.

Do you have products for outdoors?

Yes. Our Aluwood range is designed for exterior walls. It is made from thermally treated wood on powder-coated aluminium, with matching flashings, slats and screws.

How do I finish the edges of my panel wall?

Use our finishing slats. The 22mm slats finish the sides of a panel wall, and the 67mm slats create a shelf-style top on headboards and half walls.

Samples

Can I order samples?

Yes, and we highly recommend it. Our A4 samples let you see and feel the real colour and texture before you order. Order them online. Sample prices and delivery costs are shown at checkout.

How long do samples take to arrive?

Samples are usually delivered within 3 to 5 working days.

Orders, payment and delivery

How can I pay?

You can pay by card (processed securely by Stitch), through Payflex, or by EFT. EFT orders are dispatched once the funds have cleared.

How long does delivery take?

Please allow 3 to 5 working days from receipt of payment. If there is a delay, we will let you know.

How much is delivery?

Shipping is calculated at checkout and depends on your location and the weight of your order. As a guide, delivery of one or two 240cm panels costs R250 in Gauteng, R350 to the Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape and Free State, and R550 to other provinces. Can I collect my order?

Yes. Choose collection at checkout and collect free of charge from our warehouse at Riversands Outlet Park, Riversands Blvd, Knopjeslaagte, Johannesburg. We will let you know when your order is ready.

What should I do if my order arrives damaged?

Please check your order on delivery and email info@thulawall.com within 48 hours, with photos. We will arrange a replacement or refund.

Installation

Can you install the panels for me?

Yes. Our installation teams work nationwide. Add “Installation Quote” to your cart or email info@thulawall.com, and our team will contact you to discuss your project and send a quote. Installation is priced separately from the panels.

Can I install the panels myself?

Yes, many customers do. Please follow our installation guidelines, make sure the wall is suitable, and use the right fixings for your wall type. If you are unsure, we recommend using our team or a qualified installer. We are not responsible for damage caused by incorrect installation.

What do I need to do before your team arrives?

The wall or ceiling must be level, dry and sound, and any electrical, plumbing or building work in the area must be finished. The space must be clear with good access and a power supply. If the site is not ready on the confirmed date, a call-out fee applies, as stated in your quote.

Can I paint, oil or varnish the panels?

We don’t recommend it. Our panels are left untreated to keep their natural look and feel, and finishes can change the colour and texture.

Returns and refunds

Can I return my order?

Yes. If you buy online, you can cancel within 14 days of receiving your order, without giving a reason. Email info@thulawall.com with your order number. Goods must be returned unused and uninstalled, and you pay the cost of returning them. Panels that have been cut to size, including our 1200mm half panels, cannot be returned for a change of mind. How long does a refund take?

Once we receive the goods back, we refund you, including standard delivery, within 30 days of your cancellation, and usually much sooner.

What if my product is faulty?

If a product is defective, you can return it within 6 months of delivery and we will repair it, replace it or refund you. Email info@thulawall.com with your order number and photos.

Can I return sale items?

Sale items can’t be returned for a change of mind outside the 14-day cooling-off period, but your rights for faulty goods still apply.
