How it started
It started with one wall
We’re Rowan and Roxy Snyman. When we wanted a slatted wood feature wall in our own home, the quote for solid wood was eye-watering, and nothing else on the market had the warm, natural look we were after.
What we wanted was simple: a ready-to-install panel with real wood veneer on an acoustic felt backing. Nobody sold one in South Africa, so we started Thula Wall to bring it here.
Thula means “be calm” or “hush” in isiZulu, which is exactly what a good acoustic wall does to a room.
July 2023
Now part of WoodUpp, Denmark
In July 2023, the Danish acoustic panel company WoodUpp acquired Thula Wall. The panels on your wall now come straight from WoodUpp in Denmark, made with the same materials and standards they’re known for in Europe.
We’re still a South African team. We run the showrooms, the warehouse and the installations here, and we’re the people you’ll speak to from your first sample to your finished wall.

Our team in Denmark visits the farms in person to choose the best quality wood. Every veneer is hand-picked for its grain, colour and finish.

The felt backing is made in Sweden and designed to get the best acoustic performance out of the material.
