Luke Pedersen, co-founder of Pedersen + Lennard, in conversation with Thula Wall

Made in Cape Town: Thula Wall x Pedersen + Lennard

Scandinavian roots. South African personality.

We have some news we’ve been sitting on for a while. Thula Wall has teamed up with Pedersen + Lennard, one of South Africa’s best-loved furniture studios, on a new range of pieces made for your Akupanels. They bring colour, character and a fresh way to make your wall your own. The P&L x TW collection is live now, and every piece in it was designed and made in Cape Town.

Why we’re so excited

If you know South African design, you know Pedersen + Lennard. Industrial designers Luke Pedersen and James Lennard started the studio in Cape Town in 2008, and it has become a go-to name for simple, honest timber furniture that is built to last.

That is exactly what drew us to them. We believe the walls in your home deserve the same care as the furniture in it. Pedersen + Lennard share that thinking: clean lines, beautiful timber, and pieces that earn their place by being genuinely useful. Working with a studio we have admired for years felt right from the very first conversation.

Designed and made in Cape Town

A craftsman at work in the Pedersen + Lennard workshop in Cape Town

Our panels come from WoodUpp in Denmark. This range is different: it is proudly local from start to finish. Every piece was designed by the Pedersen + Lennard team and made in Cape Town by people who know timber and take real pride in their craft.

We love that. Buying local keeps skills, jobs and creativity close to home, and it means products made with South African homes in mind. Scandi, with a South African soul.

Meet the range

You’ve imagined the wall. Now make it feel like home.

  • Montreal 3 Hook: natural oak and powder-coated steel in Ivory or Sage Green, for bags in the entrance, towels in the bathroom or anything you want close at hand. R1,745.

Behind the scenes

“It’s a natural collaboration for us. I imagine our products working beautifully in people’s homes together!”

The Thula Wall and Pedersen + Lennard teams looking at a prototype in the workshop

Honestly, this has been one of the most fun projects we have worked on. From the first sketches to the final samples, the Pedersen + Lennard team brought energy, ideas and a healthy obsession with getting the details right.

There were workshop visits, prototypes passed around the table, and plenty of debate about the perfect finish and the perfect fixing. Every round made the pieces better. Watching two teams who care this much about design turn an idea into something you can hang on your wall has been a highlight of our year.

Thank you

A huge thank you to Luke, James and the whole Pedersen + Lennard crew for making this happen. Discover more of their work at pedersenlennard.co.za.
